Thronum was ruled out of taking his place in the Group 1 $700,000 Kirin Doomben 10,000 (1200m) at Doomben last Saturday when he reared up in the tie up stalls and hit his head and was declared unfit to race.

The Doomben 10,000 was to be Thronum’s last race start before heading to Sun Stud to commence stud duties and Lindsay Park head trainer David Hayes was giving him a great chance to go out a winner after going down narrowly at his previous start when second to Hellbent in the Group 1 $500,000 Keogh Homes William Reid Stakes (1200m) at The Valley on March 23.

“He was just beaten at his last start in a Group 1. I think he’s right in this (Doomben 10,000),” Hayes said.

Owners Sun Stud will now give Thronum one more chance to win an elusive Group 1 trophy before being retired and will fork out $60,000 for a private charter plane to fly the Snitzel stallion from Brisbane to Adelaide in time for the Goodwood.

The final field for the 2018 Goodwood was released this morning with Thronum drawing barrier five in the capacity twenty horse field and will be ridden by Tim Clark who won the Doomben 10,000 last Saturday aboard the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained English.
