Trainer Chris Waller celebrated a stable quinella in the 2025 Golden Rose Stakes, with the Godolphin-raced Beiwacht delivering an enormous, track-record-breaking performance to win the $1 million feature by over four lengths ahead of stablemate Wodeton at Rosehill.

The victory secured Waller a fourth Golden Rose trophy and provided the highly-touted colt with his maiden Group 1 success.
Jockey Adam Hyeronimus was proven wrong about the colt’s ability to run out the 1400m, having declared him a “risk” over the distance after his lead-up second in the Group 2 Run To The Rose.
“I did tell everyone last start that it would be a risk at the 1400m, and the main thing was to ride him how we have been riding him, keep things simple,” Hyeronimus said.
“He has got a very good turn of foot, he showed that as a two-year-old winning the Silver Slipper, so he was due, but it’s very exciting.”
Not only did Beiwacht run the distance, but he did so in a blistering new track record time of 1 minute 20.79 seconds.
Waller was ecstatic about the significance of the win for the three-year-old entire.
“It’s a big thing,” Waller said.
“He’s a Silver Slipper winner as a two-year-old, a Group 2 winner and now he has won a stallion making race. That’s fantastic (to set a new record), especially on your home track.”
The son of 2019 Golden Rose winner Bivouac had his first win this preparation, improving on placings in the Run To The Rose (2nd) and San Domenico Stakes (3rd).
Hyeronimus was thankful to the connections for sticking with him: “He’s been a difficult horse, and I don’t think I’ve ever ridden a horse as many starts as I have with this horse and very thankful to them to leave me on him… He’s come back this preparation, and he’s realised he’s a racehorse; he’s taken everything in his stride.”
Hyeronimus rode the Golden Rose champion perfectly from barrier two, taking the colt straight to the lead for a powerhouse, front-running display that Waller was quick to credit.
“Adam Hyeronimus has done a great job,” he said.
“Godolphin has stuck solid with him.
“He did a great job Adam. He didn’t panic on the horse, he got him into a nice rhythm, and they’ve run time as well.
“It’s a true testament to Adam Hyeronimus and the Godolphin team so thanks for their support.”
Wodeton ($4.20) was a distant second, beaten over four lengths, while the beaten favourite Tempted ($3) finished third.
Tempted’s jockey Ethan Brown offered an excuse: “She ran really well. They ran quick time, I feel like she’s probably a little bit more effective over 1200m with a hotter tempo but very good effort.”
Waller indicated Wodeton will likely be stretched out to 1600m for a shot at the Caulfield Guineas on October 11.
“We have to concentrate on Wodeton now and get his (Group 1) one as well,” he said.
Wodeton’s jockey, James McDonald, is also confident: “He was excellent. He was very gallant in defeat, stayed on really well and his day will come.”
Wodeton has eased from $6 to $8 for the Caulfield Guineas through Ladbrokes, while Beiwacht has firmed from $26 to $11 should Waller attempt the Golden Rose – Caulfield Guineas double, last achieved by Ole Kirk in 2020.
