The legend of Autumn Glow reached a new stratosphere at Rosehill on Saturday, with the Chris Waller-trained superstar maintaining her flawless record in a breathtaking 2026 George Ryder Stakes victory.

The win further padded the record-breaking tally of jockey James McDonald, who dominated the Slipper Day program.

McDonald’s historic afternoon began by equalling Damien Oliver’s 129 Group 1 wins aboard Aeliana in the Ranvet, before officially claiming the mantle of the “GOAT” with his 130th elite success on Autumn Boy in the Rosehill Guineas.

However, the highlight for many was the effortless display by the four-year-old daughter of The Autumn Sun in the $1 million feature (1500m).

“It was evident in the week when Chris said you’ll see something special, so when he says that I take notice because her work’s been phenomenal,” McDonald remarked after the race.

“I truly believe she loves fast ground, because there’s not a horse that could come with her.

“It doesn’t matter what is in the race. She’s just got an amazing, sustained speed, it’s quite incredible what we’re witnessing.”

McDonald, who has partnered some of the greatest modern-day gallopers, didn’t hold back on her status.

“She’s the jockey’s dream – you get nervous on horses, certain horses throughout your life, and she’s one you don’t,” he said.

“She’s important. Let’s not beat around the bush, she’s 11 from 11. I thought Anamoe was a big deal. This horse has taken it to a new level.”

Coming off a victory in the Verry Elleegant Stakes, Autumn Glow went to the gates as a prohibitive $1.28 favourite.

She lived up to the quote by cruising to a three-length win, leaving high-class rivals in her wake.

“I guess the last two were sort of pressure, pressure, without pulling ourselves up – we know what racing’s about, we know what’s going on,” Chris Waller told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“In my eyes she is (a champion)—I’m qualified to know what one’s like. If she keeps doing that, she’ll be a champion for sure.”

The race unfolded with Beiwacht setting the tempo while McDonald contentedly settled the “Queen” toward the rear of the field.

Autumn Glow was sixth as they straightened, but once McDonald clicked her into gear at the 250m mark, the contest was over in a matter of strides.

She careered away from Ciaron Maher’s dual Big Dance winner and last year’s George Ryder champ Gringotts ($19), while Bjorn Baker’s Futurity Stakes hero Pericles ($16) stuck on gamely for third after a tough run from a wide draw.

Gringotts’ rider, Nash Rawiller, was full of praise for the distant but brave runner-up.

“Awesome run. The mare dropped us 500m from home… Really proud of the way he hit the line the last 300m,” he said.

The horizon now points toward the Group 1 $5 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 11.

Waller remained characteristically patient when quizzed on the next move: “Just wait, wait. She just does everything so effortlessly. That’ll help her get 2000m.”

Autumn Glow is currently the $2 favourite for the Queen Elizabeth at Ladbrokes, with stablemate Aeliana on the second line at $3.

As for McDonald’s preference? “I’m sick of bloody pointing where she goes!” he joked. “I’ll let [Waller] decide. Put it this way, I wouldn’t be shying away from any horse in the country.”
