2015 Victoria Derby Day Results: Tarzino Wins 2015 Victoria Derby

The first major card of the Melbourne Cup Carnival will be contested at Flemington today; 2015 Victoria Derby Day highlighted by four major Group 1 races including the feature event for three-year-old stayers contested over 2500m.

2015 Victoria Derby Day results will get underway with the running of the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (2000m) at 11:45am local time; concluding with Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m) which has drawn a particularly classy field at 5:20pm.

Mahuta has continued his impressive run of form through the 2015 Spring Carnival this morning; producing an impressive start-to-finish performance to take out the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m).

Mahuta jumped from the barriers well and was allowed to stride forward by jockey Brad Rawiller; setting a quick tempo alongside Takedown and Bassett.

Rounding onto the final straight at the fore of the field, Mahuta continued to find over the dying stages of the race; hitting the line ahead of a fast-finishing Patch Adams.

Race 2 Wakeful Stakes Results

Ambience has notched up an early win on 2015 Derby Day for Godolphin; producing an impressive turn of foot in the final straight to take out the Group 3 Wakeful Stakes (2000m).

Jumping from the gates well, jockey James McDonald settled Ambience in prime position on the heels of early leaders Bengal Cat and My Poppette; receiving an ideal run in transit.

Rounding onto the final straight and momentarily blocked, McDonald allowed the Street Cry filly time to balance before mounting the impressive late assault; the three-year-old exploding forward and opening a big gap to hit the line three lengths ahead of closest rival Beluga Blue.

Clear race favourite Disposition has completed an impressive late performance to beat San Diego in the Group 3 Guvera Stakes (1400m) on Derby Day.

Disposition continued to receive huge support in betting markets leading up to jump, but jumped from the gates only fairly and was forced to settle at the rear of the talent-rich field.

Rounding onto the final straight with plenty to do, jockey Damien Oliver rode Disposition for luck on the fence of was repaid for his decision; finding the fore of the field with 200m to run and maintaining to return to winning form in style.

Race 4 Coolmore Stud Stakes Results

Japonisme has produced a huge upset in the first Group 1 feature race on 2015 Victoria Derby Day; mustering a monumental turn of foot to post a dominant win in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).

Japonisme was rated a rank outsider prior to jump, but has trialled well down the straight and did his chances of success no harm when leaving from the gates well and settling just off the pace of early leaders Super One, Counterattack and Dal Cielo.

Kicking forward with 200m to run, Glyn Schofield ask for an extra effort late and the Choisir gelding responded to deliver trainer Chris Waller a third-consecutive win in the race.

Gai Waterhouse has been confirmed to saddle two runners in the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday after Excess Knowledge bobbed his head at the right time to win the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) this afternoon.

Excess Knowledge continued to receive huge support from punters in the hours leading up to jump, and the stayer did his chances so harm when leaving from the gates well and settling in prime position within the field; allowing Bohemian Lily, and Zanteca to set a fair early pace.

Receiving an ideal run in transit, Dwayne Dunn led the horse to the fore of the field and mounted an early sprint; appearing to have been run down by Zanteca but nodded at the right time to secure ballot-free entry into the Race that Stops a Nation.

Race 6 Mackinnon Stakes Results

French raider Gailo Chop has completed an impressive start-to-finish performance to take out the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) this afternoon.

Gailo Chop produced an impressive effort to finish midfield in the Cox Plate last weekend and appeared to have taken plenty of benefit from the run when jumping from the gates well and taking up the pace straight up.

Rounding onto the final straight in the lead, Gailo Chop dropped off the pace of Rising Romance with 200m to run but produced a huge kick to re-take the lead and hit the line half a length clear.

Clear race favourite Tarzino has justified his resounding favouritism at Flemington this afternoon; producing a perfectly timed charge in the final straight to take out the featured Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m).

Tarzino jumped from the barriers well and settled in prime position on the heels of early leaders Colonel Custer, Shards, Ayers Rock and Palace Tycoon rounding onto the back straight.

Having received a dream run in transit, Newitt allowed Tarzino to balance before the pair launched a huge late assault; mustering a massive turn of foot to hit the line two lengths ahead of Etymology.

Race 8 Myer Classic Results

Popular mare Politeness has produced a career-best effort to date to post a maiden Group 1 victory at Flemington this afternoon; completing a strong final straight sprint for success in the Myer Classic (1600m).

Politeness was charged with overcoming a sharp step-up in distance for her last start over 1200m, but jumped from the barriers and well and settled into a good rhythm just off the pace of the early Myer Classic leaders.

Peeling out upon reaching the finals straight, the Street Sense mare immediately responded when asked for an extra effort and poked clear of Fenway to continue her perfect run of form through spring.
