Heart Skip A Beat chases maiden win in Sunshine Coast 2yo Classic

Magic Millions 2yo Classic emergency Heart Skip A Beat gets her chance to secure her maiden win when she lines up in the $125,000 Coastline BMW 2yo Classic QTIS Plate (1200m) at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

Trainer Liam Birchley concedes that Heart Skip A Beat would not have troubled the brilliant Capitalist if she had gained a run in the $2m Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast last weekend and can see this week’s assignment within her reach.

“It looked like she might get a run there for a while when some of the others above her gained starts,” Birchley told Racing Queensland News.

“But the way the track raced I doubt she would have troubled the winner (Capitalist) as she gets back in her races.

“It was a typical Gold Coast track which suited horses up on the speed.”

“She’s definitely looking for this distance at Caloundra but whether she’s had enough already I’m not sure.”

The Falvelon filly was placed at her first three race starts before Birchley had to drop her back in distance to try to earn some extra prizemoney to gain a start in the Gold Coast’s glamour two year old race.

Heart Skip A Beat failed to make up enough ground over the 1000m when sixth to Just Orm in a two year old Handicap at the Sunshine Coast on January 2 and could only make the fifth emergency position in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic.

“It was too short for her last time as I had to drop her back in distance to 1000 metres to get some more prizemoney to qualify for the Magic Millions,” Birchley said.

“If it wasn’t for the Magic Millions she would have been in the paddock already.”

Sunshine Coast trainer Stuart Kendrick has put the blinkers on Rare Occurrence who is backing up after running eleventh to Capitalist in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic.

Rare Occurrence will obviously find the Sunshine Coast assignment a lot easier and Kenrdick is hoping the Star Witness filly can add another win to her record after scoring on debut in a 1050m two year old plate at Doomben back in October.

Another locally trained filly Royal Tithe heads the market order at $3.20 at Ladbrokes.com.au on the back of two recent Doomben placings.

The John Zielke filly ran an impressive first up second to the smart Zelady’s Night Out in the Listed $100,000 The Groove Train Calaway Gal Stakes (1050m) at Doomben on December 12 followed by a head second to Candika in a 1110m two year Handicap at Doomben a week later.

Runaway Toowoomba winner Love Spy is on the second line of betting at $5.50 with Heart Skip A Beat and Rare Occurrence sharing the next line of betting at $6.

Coastline BMW 2yo Classic Plate market order at Ladbrokes.com.au: $3.20 Royal Tithe, $5.50 Love Spy, $6 Heart Skip A Heart, Rare Occurrence, $11 Par Oneri, $13 Canton Road, $15 One Golden Day, $17 Pegapus, $18 River Racer, $26 She’s Fast, $31 Mobile, $51 Stryking Stunnah, $71 Rothabye, $81 Snow Fields, $101 General Cos, Yeezy, Gracefully, Lady Solerno, $126 Captain’s Pick.
