Fast Underwood Stakes Tempo To Suit Hi World

Hi World is currently available at 2015 Underwood Stakes odds of $21, but trainer Peter Moody believes that the hot tempo in the Group 1 event at Caulfield tomorrow gives the promising galloper the chance to return to winning form.

Hi World stamped himself as a 2015 Spring Racing Carnival contender when he took out both the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) and Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and he started his campaign with a close fifth in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 29, but he was outsprinted late in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 12.

Moody believes that Hi World was not suited by the set and sprint nature of both the Memsie Stakes and the Makybe Diva Stakes and the leading trainer told Racing Ahead that the High Chaparral entire is sure to benefit from the presence of The Cleaner in the Underwood Stakes.

“Most horses in the weight-for-age races you love to get a soft lead and kick-off, but he is not that type of horse, he is more of a wind and grind horse,” Moody said.

“These good horses like Fawkner were right at him and outsprinted him, but he still stuck on to get beat two and a quarter.

“Tomorrow with the much greater tempo through The Cleaner and our bloke being able to bowl along might drag the speed out of a few of these others more so than they were the other day.”

Hi World is set to wear blinkers for the first time this preparation and Moody is hopeful that the gear change will help the four-year-old find the two lengths improvement that he needs to record a maiden win at the highest level of racing in the 2015 Underwood Stakes.

“He continues to please at home and the blinkers go back on for this occasion,” Moody said.

“I am not suggesting that he has lost focus, but the other day he did wander a little bit late and I wanted to have him switched right on.

“It is important that we get one of these Group 1s on his resume going forward and I am looking to try and make out that margin.

“The way that tomorrow’s race will be run will certainly suit him a lot better.”

Hi World is currently available at 2015 Underwood Stakes odds of $21 with Ladbrokes, while Fawkner ($3.50) remains a clear favourite from Contributer ($4.60), The Cleaner ($6.50) and Mongolian Khan ($11).
