Magic Millions winner Unencumbered will have to pass a stewards’ inspections before being cleared to run in the 2014 Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on April 6.

Racing Queensland stewards reported that Unencumbered had a trickle of blood coming from one nostril after winning the Jeep $2m Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast last Saturday.

Warwick Farm trainer Bjorn Baker was unperturbed that Unencumbered will have to pass a 1000m gallop in front of stewards to get a clearance before his next race start and will give the Test Rossa colt a two week break before commencing his Golden Slipper campaign.

Baker and jockey Nathan Berry shared the biggest wins of their careers with Berry riding an inspired race to grab the limelight from his brother Tommy who had ridden three wins earlier in the day.

Baker said that he had his vets scope Unencumbered on Sunday morning and all was well but he will happily subscribe to the stewards instructions before the colt lines ups again.

“We had the horse scoped this morning and everything seems fine,” Baker told The Courier-Mail on Sunday.

“He stumbled and tripped afterwards, then stood up and waited for Nathan to get back on. I think (the bleed) might be related to that knock. Maybe I hugged him too hard.

“I don’t think he’d bled, he’s never had a history of it, and he never coughed after the race. We’ll get him home, he’ll go home tonight, he’ll need a 1000m gallop, but he’ll be fine.”

Unencumbered will be trying to emulate the efforts of Dance Hero (2004) and Phelan Ready (2009) who both won the Magic Millions 2yo Classic and the Golden Slipper in the same year and is now a clear cut second favourite for the Golden Slipper at $6.50 behind the Peter Snowden trained Earthquake ($5.50).

Saturday’s Magic Millions win was Unencumbered’s fifth win from six starts and took his prizemoney earnings to over $1.7 million.
