Trekking was quoted at $9 with Ladbrokes.com.au when the final field for the Goodwood was released on Tuesday and on race morning the James Cummings trained five year old is sharing the second line of betting at $7.50 with the topweight Santa Ana Lane.

The Gordon Richards trained Gytrash heads the market order at $3.70.

South Australian Derby winning jockey Johnny Allen takes over the reins from Kerrin McEvoy who was aboard Trekking for his last start second to Greyworm in the Group 3 $140,000 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 18.

Cummings is happy with the way Trekking has come through that run and is expecting a first class performance from the 2019 Stradbroke Handicap winner.

“He’s ticking over really well as he showed in a recent trial win at Flemington since a very good effort last start,” said trainer James Cummings.

“But he’s in the best of form, even though it was a little frustrating to be beaten last time.”

The Goodwood is run under set weights plus penalties and Cummings said that Trekking is not kindly treated under those weight conditions

“It’s an interesting race for Trekking,” Cummings said.

“He probably isn’t best-suited by the set-weights and penalties conditions compared to a horse like The Inevitable who is pretty smart and gets 2.5kg off us.”

Allen will be able to settle Trekking midfield from barrier six in the fourteen-horse field while the race favourite Gytrash will need more than his fair share of luck after drawing barrier twelve.

Gytrash was the winner of the Group 1 $750,000 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on February 15 and goes into The Goodwood on the back of a three lengths win in the Group 3 $120,000 R N Irwin Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville four weeks ago.

Betting for the 2020 The Goodwood at Ladbrokes.com.au: $3.70 Gytrash, $7.50 Santa Ana Lane, Trekking, $9 Sunlight, $9.50 The Inevitable, $12 Order Of Command, Behemoth, $14 Lyre, $17 Zoutori, $19 Xilong, $31 Jungle Edge, $41 Bold Star, $61 Amberdi, $91 Li’l Kontra.
