Tosen Stardom was hit with a three month ban from racing after Racing New South Wales stewards ruled that he had suffered a bleed from both nostrils following his work at the Canterbury Park Quarantine Centre on Tuesday morning.

Stewards conducted an inquiry on Thursday after receiving information from veterinarian Dr Ramon Perez who witnessed the bleeding attack one hour and fifteen minutes after Tosen Stardom completed his morning trackwork.

Part of the stewards’ report read:  “Dr Perez’s report on Randwick Equine Centre letterhead of 29 March 2016, states “an endoscopic examination of the upper airway and trachea was performed at rest revealing a Grade 2/4 exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage (EIPH)”.

Under the Australian Rules of Racing when a horse displays exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage from both nostrils it is automatically banned from racing for three months, thus ruling Tosen Stardom out of the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

The Yasutoshi Ikee trained stayer had performed well in Australia at is previous visit during the 2015 Sydney Autumn Carnival with a second to Contributer in the Group 1 $500,000 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill followed by a fifth to Criterion in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Tosen Stardom was rated a $13 chance at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes before being ruled out.

The Chris Waller trained Winx dominates the betting at $1.60 while stablemates Preferment at $8 and Kermadec at $11 are the next two in the betting ahead of Criterion and Hauraki at $13.

Other Queen Elizabeth Stakes betting sees Tarzino at $15, Lucia Valentino at $17, and Azkadellia, Bow Creek, First Seal, It’s Somewhat and Rising Romance at $26.
