Thankgodyou’rehere Overcomes Injury In Time For Derby Day Start

Trainer Pat Webster is confident Thankgodyou’rehere has overcome the injury that saw him run last in the Epsom Handicap in time for this Saturdays tab.com.au Stakes at Flemington.

The six-year-old gelding hit his head on the barriers before the Epsom, causing him to sustain bruising and pull up more than 25 lengths last in the race.

“The starter went to let him go and the switch wasn’t working properly,” Webster said.

“He jumped and hit his head on the barrier.

“He was entitled to run nowhere near as he usually runs when he hit his head like that.

“He was very sore above his eyes.

“The next couple of days he was a bit funny putting the bridle on.”

With Thankgodyou’rehere’s health now back to its best, the gelding will have to contend with his wide barrier draw of 14 in tomorrow’s Group 3 race.

“He’s had a nice freshen up, his only worry tomorrow is the barrier,” Webster said.

“We’ve got no choice but to go right back.

“Barriers win races.”

Webster believes the Secret Savings gelding will be at his best come tomorrow’s run.

“He’s a fresh horse… and he’s in a very happy place at the moment,” he said.

“He’s never finished further back than fifth (apart from the Epsom) so whatever went wrong we’ll put that behind us and press on.

“He might be a group 1 horse but he’s definitely a Group 3 horse.

“If he’d have drawn (barrier) 1-8 I would have declared him.

“He likes 3 weeks between runs and he’s had a month.”

Thankgodyou’rehere has won eight of his 19 career starts and has earned close to $450,000 in prize money.
