A daring front running ride from Nash Rawiller saw smart mare Sweet Deal score an all the way win in the Group 3 $160,000 Robrick Lodge Triscay Stakes (1200m) at Randwick today.

Sweet Deal was quick to break the gates and Rawiller had no hesitation in taking up the running and controlled the race from the front from the outset.

Rawiller has all the chasers off the bit coming to the home turn and nothing was able to gain any advance on Sweet Deal ($14) and the John Thompson trained mare went on to record a two and a quarter lengths win.

$51 outsider Spiritual Pursuit chased Sweet Deal from the jump and stuck on for second with Pohutukawa ($8.50) running on from the back to claim the third spot.

The $5 favourite Seasons settled midfield on the fence but never threatened in the straight and wound up in seventh spot.

Sweet Deal has now won four of her last five starts following her first up win today and Thompson said the mare has just got better with age.

“She is a mare that has just got better with age,” Thompson said.

“She has grown in confidence and Nash is riding her with confidence and she is going super.”

“She is probably better on top of the ground. There was a bit of cut in the ground, she is a big mare and usually gets a bit bogged down in it.”

“Mares, if they are going well, they are going well.”
