Streama Remains A Narrow Favourite In Doomben Cup Betting

Streama is currently available at 2014 Doomben Cup odds of $4.20 and remains a narrow favourite in betting for the Group 1 event at Doomben tomorrow, despite plenty of support flowing for Leebaz and Akzar.

Akzar has been the market mover in 2014 Doomben Cup betting markets and is now into a quote of $4.40, while Leebaz has remained steady at a quote of $4.40, but jockey Blake Shinn remains confident that Streama is the horse to beat in the $500,000 race tomorrow.

Streama raced fairly without winning during her 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival campaign, but returned to the winners stall with a comfortable win over Mr O’Ceirin and Precedence in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast on May 3 and Shinn told Sky Racing HQ that he believes the confidence boost could be key to the winning chances of the Stratum mare in the Doomben Cup.

“She is certainly thriving up there in Brisbane,” Shinn said.

“I’m not sure if it is the change in environment or the different scenery or what not.

“She is in a great frame of mind after the Hollindale win and she is going into Saturday’s race in really great shape.

“I think that horses are like people, they are all individuals, and confidence in anyone certainly helps and brings out the best.

“She hadn’t won for a long period of time and she was running well but her form was a little bit patchy and I think that beating, probably not the caliber of horses that she was running against in Sydney, has certainly given her that little bit of spark that she has needed to go forward and win another Group 1.”

Streama could be having the final race start of her career in the Doomben Cup, before beginning her career as a broodmare, and will be chasing her fourth win at Group 1 level after previously winning the 2011 Flight Stakes (1600m), 2012 Australian Oaks (2400m) and 2013 George Main Stakes (1600m).

The five-year-old is having her first race start at Doomben, but performed well in Brisbane during last year’s winter carnival;  finishing third in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) and second in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).

Doomben Cup betting favourites generally have a strong record in the Group 1 event, but Shoot Out (2011), Manighar (2012) and Foreteller (2013) have all been beaten as favourites in the past three years.
