Trainer Ciaron Maher has revealed that talented filly Srikandi will contest the 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm on June 21.

Srikandi made her Group 1 debut when she started favourite in the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 7 and she was far from disgraced; battling home to finish third behind surprise winner River Lad and veteran sprinter Temple Of Boom.
Maher told TVN that the Dubawi filly had come out of the run in excellent condition and confirmed that he would give the three-year-old another opportunity to score her maiden win at Group 1 level in the Tattersall’s Tiara.
“She has come through great and is very bright and well,” Maher said.
“If it wasn’t a Group 1 she wouldn’t run, but we’re here, she’s well and it’s a Group 1 for fillies and mares, so there’s not really much reason to miss the race.”
Srikandi made her racing debut with a victory in the Slickpix Plate (1000m) at Cranbourne on September 19 last year and made impressive improvement since returning for her second racing campaign in The Drain Man Handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley on February 28.
The talented filly returned to winning form in the Brown’s Sawdust & Shavings Handicap (1200m) at Mornington on March 26 and was sent to Queensland after winning the Carlton Draught Handicap (1200m) at Sandown on April 16.
Srikandi made her black type racing debut with a comfortable win in the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) at the Gold Coast on May 3 and was equally impressive in the Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on May 17 before stamping herself as a leading contender for the Stradbroke Handicap with another strong victory in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 24.
The three-year-old was the best backed runner in the lead-up to the Stradbroke Handicap and she jumped from the gates brilliantly to take up the running in the early stages of the race before settling in third.
She loomed as a winning chance at the 200 metre match, but did not have the acceleration to match River Lad and Temple Of Boom in the final stages of the race.
Srikandi has not scored six race wins from her eight career starts and has accumulated $415,900 in total prizemoney for connections.
