So You Think Coming Back – In Distance

So You Think

So You Think will come back in distance for the Sussex Stakes

Aidan O’Brien has pulled a surprise move and entered former dual Cox Plate winner So You Think in the Sussex Stakes in England.

What is surprising about the move is that So You Think has raced twice in England, once over 2000m and once over 2100m, and will now start in a race over the mile.

Since So You Think joined the Ballydoyle team, O’Brien has repeatedly dropped hints that he believes the horse has the pace to be able to win at Group 1 level over the mile.

No one at the Coolmore team has confirmed the exact plans for So You Think, except that he will start in the Group 1 Prince of Wales stakes over 2000m at Royal Ascot on June 15.

It is expected that O’Brien has decided to give the former Bart Cummings trained stallion a freshen up before he is faced with one of the biggest tests in his career at Royal Ascot in June.

Rumoured races for the five year old after his Ascot adventure include the Irish Champion Stakes, Prix de l’Arc de triomphe and the Breeders Cup in the U.S.

Although he has shown his best form over 2000m, So You Think does have good form over the shorter trips.

He won twice at 1400m in Australia, including the Group 2 Memsie Stakes. He also won the Group 1 Underwood Stakes at 1800m. What may come as a concern is that the only time in his career when he missed the placing’s was in a 1600m race.

Although having said that, it was at his first attempt at Group 1 (Caulfield Guineas) in just his fourth start, and he was beaten by horses such as Starspangledbanner, Manhattan Rain and Carrara.
