Sessions will return to the races in the 2014 The Shorts at Royal Randwick tomorrow and Godolphin Racing Manager Jason Walsh believes that the talented sprinter is well placed in the Group 2 event.

Sessions has not been seen at the races since he finished a disappointing `3th in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 10, but has performed well in two barrier trials at Warwick Farm and impressed trainer John O’Shea in trackwork.

Godolphin elected to scratch Sessions from the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick on September 6 due to the heavy track and Walsh told Racing Ahead that he is confident the Lonhro entire can return to his best form when he gets an opportunity on a firm Royal Randwick track in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) this weekend.

“He is a very talented colt,” Walsh said.

“The key to him we think is back on top of the ground here tomorrow and we couldn’t be any more pleased with him at home and he has put in several really eye-catching barrier trials as he has done in the past.

“He is very relaxed, he is in great order, he looks in outstanding condition and we scratched a couple of weeks ago, so he is certainly not sure of fitness.

“This is a race that he looks very well placed in.”

Safeguard was also scratched from the Concorde Stakes due to the wet Royal Randwick track and is set to return to the races in The Shorts.

The Exceed And Excel filly won the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) as a two-year-old, but has not recorded another race win since he took out the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield in August  last year.

Walsh said that Safeguard is another horse that has impressed in both trials and trackwork leading into the start of his 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign and is expecting the four-year-old to perform well on Saturday.

“He is a horse that has really come back to the sort of form that he was showing as an early two-year-old,” Walsh said.

“Amongst his crop he was certainly one of our main hopes heading towards the Slipper, but for one reason or another didn’t make it.

“We are extremely pleased with how he is going at home and he has trialed well against good company.

“We expect him to make significant improvement and are hopeful that he will make significant improvement also.”

Sessions is available at The Shorts odds of $4.40, while Safeguard is available at a quote of $15 to take out the Group 2 event.
