Giant killer Samadoubt will adopt the same front running tactics as he did in the Winx Stakes when he steps out in the weight for age Group 2 $250,000 Bob Ingham Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Samadoubt caused a huge upset with an all the way win at the huge odds of $31 in the Group 1 $500,000 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on August 24, beating some more highly fancied weight for age performers.

The Not A Single Doubt six year old has drawn the outside gate in the sixteen horse Chelmsford Stakes field but trainer Bjorn Baker is not worried and said that Tim Clark will give Samadoubt plenty of time to cross over to the front.

“Barrier 16 is probably not a bad gate because he is going to roll forward on his own time,” Baker told Racenet.

Samadoubt has been a drifter in the betting at Ladbrokes.com.au and after opening at $7.50, has eased out to be a $9 chance on Friday morning, but Baker is confident that the front running chestnut will present in great order again.

“He’s in great order and has done everything well,” Baker said.

“His work has been really good since his Group I win. He looks a million dollars and Tim Clark stays with him.”

The James Cummings trained Avilius was beaten just under a length when fourth as the short priced favourite behind Samdoubt in the Winx Stakes and the French import has been backed into odds on at $1.90 for the Chelmsford Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Cummings believes that Avilius will be better suited over the 1600m of the Chelmsford Stakes after he was doing his best work over the final stages of the 1400m in the Winx Stakes.

“That was always going to be a formidable task for him at 1,400m on a quick track,” Cummings said.

“But I was pleased to see him hit the line the way he did and we’re looking forward to this, particularly if the track has the expected give in it that he likes.”

Kerrin McEvoy will stick with Avilius who will settle in the second half of the field from barrier eleven.

Betting for the 2019 Chelmsford Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au: $1.90 Avilius, $8 Unforgotten, $9 Samadoubt, $10 Con Te Partiro, $12 Angel Of Truth, $13 Girl Tuesday, $14 Finche, $17 Sixties Groove, $31 Youngstar, $51 Haripour, $61 Shraaoh, Nettoyer, $81 Patrick Erin, $91 Sir Charles Road, $101 Maurus, $151 Brimham Rocks.
