Rodd ready for the cameras in BTC Cup

Jockey Michael Rodd is ready for the cameras if he is lucky enough to win the Group 1 $400,000 Bundaberg Distilling Co. BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on Spirit Of Boom today.

Rodd had his nose smashed when the Michael Kent trained Scratchy Bottom threw her head up and hit him in the face before finishing third to May’s Dream in the Group 1 $400,000 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville on April 26.

But then he used his time off due to a careless suspension to get it quickly repaired and is ready for a wide smile for the cameras in the wining the stall after the BTC Cup.

“I broke it across the bridge and caved the side in so they had to pop it back out,” Rodd told AAP.

Rodd was aboard Spirit Of Boom when the Tony Gollan trained six year old won the Group 1 $400,000 Hacer Group William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on March 21 and he is quietly confident they can win another Group 1 today.

Gollan has given Rodd a glowing report since Spirit Of Boom, with Timothy Bell in the saddle, was beaten a head by stablemate Temple Of Boom in the Group 2 $175,000 Greenslopes Private Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.

And Rodd can also see a lot of pressure on up front with the short priced favourite Buffering sure to set a slick tempo which he says will suit Spirit Of Boom who likes to get back in his races and hit the line hard.

“I’m feeling confident because there’s a lot of pressure,” Rodd said.

“There are a few going forward so that’s going to help me.”

“He’s ticking over really well so he’s going to be hard to beat.”

The Robert Heathcote trained Buffering is currently the $1.85 favourite with Ladbrokes.com.au with Spirit Of Boom the second pick in the betting at $5.50 ahead of Hot Snitzel at $7, Temple Of Boom at $9, Tiger Tees at $11, Peron at $17 and Famous Seamus the outsider of the seven horse field at $21.
