The 2017 Premier’s Cup is a Group 3 race that takes place at Eagle Farm racecourse in May each year. Run over a distance of 2,200 metres, the Premier’s Cup is run as part of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. The race is run under open handicap conditions and is worth $125,000 in prize money.

The Premier’s Cup was first run in 2006 when it was won by Coalesce. Horses that run in races such as the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap typically go on to compete in the Premier’s Cup. The race is a great form guide for other staying races later in the Brisbane winter carnival, including the Group 2 Brisbane Cup.
The Premier’s Cup takes place on Doomben 10,000 Day and shares the day with the Group 1 Doomben 10,000, Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes, Glenlogan Park Stakes and Lord Mayor’s Cup.
Notable winners of the Premier’s Cup include Theseo (2007), Rezone (2008), Reggie (2009), Tabulate (2010) and Shuffle The Cash (2011).
In terms of a bit of history of the Premier’s Cup there is a few winners of note.
Recently, Larry’s Never Late (3rd in 2010) ran placings in both the Chairman’s Handicap & Premier’s Cup, while Fulmonti (3rd in 2008) and Mandela (3rd in 2007) both ran third in the Chairman’s Handicap on their way to winning this race.
Fulmonti continued on to the 2008 Brisbane Cup where he would go onto finish second behind Viewed.
