Ipswich Cup

The 2018 Ipswich Cup is a Listed race held annually at Ipswich Racecourse in Bundamba, Ipswich. Located only a short 40 minute drive from Brisbane along the Ipswich Motorway, Ipswich Cup Day draws considerable crowds, from the city of Ipswich and elsewhere.

Races over 2150m, the Ipswich Cup is open to horses aged three years old and above and is run under quality handicap conditions. Total prize money for the race is $175,000, making this a very lucrative listed race. The winner receives $112,000, which is quite an attractive sum for a lot of local trainers.

Also on the racecard on Ipswich Cup Day are the Listed $175,000 Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) and the $100,000 Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m). However, the Ipswich Cup is by far the main attraction, keeping punters on the edge of their seats and race fans leaning over the railings.

The Ipswich Cup has an ideal spot in the calendar. Running just after the end of the Brisbane Racing Club’s Winter Carnival, the Ipswich Cup presents a final opportunity for trainers to get some black-type racing and possibly a win in before breaking for the winter. The Ipswich Cup can also serve as a stepping point for the Tattersall’s Tiara Day the following weekend.

The Ipswich Cup Day is one of the biggest days of the year for Ipswich residents. They turn out in their thousands for a big day of racing, fashions, and partying.
