Sale

Sale Racecourse is top quality provincial circuit located in the picturesque region in the very south-east of mainland Australia.

The Town of Sale is effectively due east of Melbourne almost all the way to the eastern shoreline.

While easily accessible by the Princess Highway geographically speaking it’s somewhat isolated making the Sale Racecourse a hugely important feature of the area.

The Sale Turf Club runs the circuit and has origins dating back as far as 1842.

The club is proud of their achievements as one of the most influential provincial circuits in Victoria and their rich history of producing national level talent.

Among the stars to have passed through ‘Greenwattle Racecourse’ include Sky Heights and the most prolific Melbourne Cup winner ever Makybe Diva.

The Sale Turf Club hosts just over 20 meetings every year with good support from the local region.

The biggest event on the calendar is the Sale Cup run on the last Sunday in October every year and worth in excess of $150,000.

Sale Racecourse itself is good sized with a total circumference of 2040m of premium turf.

The track is wide enough for fields of up to 16 with the exclusion of the 1400m start which is limited to 14.

The shortest race they cater for is a 1000m sprint with a long distance test of 2200m also available as five other starts in between.

Sale Racecourse can also host jumps racing from a two mile (3200m) start point.
