Our Ivanhowe stamped himself as one of the most promising stayers in the world when he beat Sea The Moon to take out the Group 1 Grosser Preis Von Baden (2413m) in Germany in September last year and after failing to fire in the Group 1 Prix De l’Arc De Triomphe (2400m), he proved that his maiden Group 1 win was no fluke when he took out the Group 1 Grosser Preis Von Bayern (2414m) on November 1.

The Solider Hollow entire was sent to Japan for the Group 1 Japan Cup (2400m) and he finished a more than credible sixth behind Epiphaneia before he was purchased by Team Freedman as a potential Cups contender.

Our Ivanhowe made his Australian racing debut with a seventh place finish in the Group 3 R A Lee Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on May 16 and he did not look overly impressive in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on September 19, but he returned to a semblance of his best form in the Group 3 The Bart Cummings (2520m) at Flemington on October 4.

Co-trainer Lee Freedman admits that it has taken him time to work out exactly how he needs to train Our Ivanhowe, but he now believes that he has an understanding of the talented import and is confident that he will run well in the 2015 Caulfield Cup.

“I think that he is a horse on the way up,” Freedman told RSN this morning.

“His mile and a half form is extremely good, he has won three times from five attempts, and he was second in The Bart Cummings the other day with 60.

“I don’t really think he is a Caulfield horse and Flemington will suit him a lot better, but I am very pleased with where he is at.

“He should run very well and go forward from that as well.

“I made the mistake of training him a bit like Lucas Cranich and he is a totally different horse, he is a big strong horse.

“If you look at his European form and his subsequent run in the Japan Cup at the end of his campaign, it was nearly his best run and I am very comfortable with what he has done so far.”

Our Ivanhowe is currently available at 2015 Caulfield Cup odds of $21 with Ladbrokes, while Mongolian Khan ($4.80) remains a clear favourite from Set Square ($9), Snow Sky ($9), Hauraki ($9.50), Rising Romance ($10), Fame Game ($11), Hokko Brave ($17) and Royal Descent ($18).
