Talented filly Oohood will get her chance to breakthrough for her maiden win when she lines up in Saturday’s Group 2 $200,000 Darley Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
Oohood has been Group 1 placed on three occasions during her two year old year but is yet to greet the judge first from her six race starts.
The Tony McEvoy trained I Am Invincible filly finished third behind Written By and Enbihaar in the Group 1 $1.5m Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield during the 2018 Melbourne Autumn Carnival.
McEvoy then took on the Sydney youngsters for a second to Estijaab in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill followed by a second to El Dorado Dreaming in the Group 1 $1m Inglis Sires’ (1400m) at Randwick during the Sydney Autumn Carnival.
McEvoy is hoping the stables winning momentum continues this weekend with Oohood following a double last Saturday with a Just Rolling winning at Morphettville Parks and Crockett winning at Flemington.
The winning run continued midweek with Aristocratic Miss and Roobeena collecting their maiden wins at Geelong today.
“I hope the trend continues, although she’s got a bit of a harder task at Randwick,” McEvoy told racing.com.
“But she’s been on a similar path to those two fillies today. Aristocratic Miss came off just one trial like her and you couldn’t have been more impressive in a race than she was today.”
McEvoy is warning the punters not to be deceived by Oohood’s looks in the pre-race parade in the ‘Theatre of the Horse’ at Randwick as she is still carrying her winter coat coming from the cold of the southern states.
“They’ll get a bit of a shock those Sydney horses as they are miles ahead of our horses in their coats because of their climate,” McEvoy said.
“She won’t get the pick from the paddock but I’m hopeful they will be talking about us after the race.
“She’s going up tomorrow (Wednesday). I am very happy with her but she looks a bit wintry.”
Oohood is one of thirteen fillies nominated for the Silver Shadow Stakes and has been installed as the early $3 favourite just ahead of the Chris Waller trained Fiesta at $4.20 and Kris Lees’ Miss Fabulass at $5.
