Money For The Cleaner In Underwood Stakes Betting

The Cleaner has been backed into 2015 Underwood Stakes odds of $5.50 and he has been a clear market mover in betting for the Group 1 event that will be held at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Cleaner opened at a quote of $7 when the Underwood Stakes field was released earlier in the week, but there has been consistent support for the cult hero and he could end up starting the race on the second line of betting following his impressive victory in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 5.

While The Cleaner has been the best-backer runner in the past 24 hours, Fawkner remains a clear favourite and he is back into $3.30 after getting back out to $3.50 yesterday afternoon.

Fawkner started his 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a third win at Group 1 level in the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 12 and he returns to Caulfield where he has previously taken out the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) and Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m).

Contributer is the only other horse that is available at single figure 2015 Underwood Stakes odds, but he has been a consistent drifter throughout the week and he is out to $4.80 after he opened at $4 on Wednesday.

The High Chaparral entire stamped himself as one of the best weight-for-age gallopers in Australia when he took out the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m), Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) and Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) during the 2015 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, but he was completely ran off his feet in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes and there are question marks over his ability to handle the strong tempo that is sure to feature in the Underwood Stakes this afternoon.

There has been a sprinkling of support in the 2015 Underwood Stakes betting market with Ladbrokes for Dandino ($18 into $16), Sertorius ($51 into $41) and Volkstok’n’barrell ($14 into $13), while Mourinho ($17 out to $19), Weary ($11 out to $15), Magicool ($34 out to $41) and Hi World ($21 out to $26) have all been on the drift.

The Underwood Stakes has proven a fairly average race for favourites and El Segundo (started at $3 in 2006), Weekend Hussler (started at $1.50 in 2008) and So You Think (started at $1.70 in 2010) are the only favourites to be successful in the last decade.
