She Will Reign covered the 900m trial in 52.90 secs and had a length to spare over the Jason Coyle trained Sweet Serendipity.

The Gary Portelli trained She Will Reign has already secured a slot in the $10m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14 and will return to the race track in the Group 1 $500,000 Moir Stakes (1000m) at The Valley on September 29.

She Will Reign was spelled after winning the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 18 and today’s trial was her second in preparation for her 2017 Spring Carnival campaign following a second over 800m at Warwick Farm on August 25.

Melbourne jockey Ben Melham rode She Will Reign to victory in the Golden Slipper and is hoping to get down to the filly’s lightweight in The Everest but was no chance of stripping down to 50kg for the weight for age Moir Stakes.

Premiership winning jockey Craig Williams was then booked to ride She Will Reign in the Moir Stakes but had to relinquish the mount when he received a twenty-three day careless riding suspension after causing interference that saw the Darren Weir trained Limestone clipping heels and dislodging Damian Lane at the 100m in the Group 2 $200,000 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington last Saturday.

The connections of She Will Reign then snapped up McEvoy for the Moir Stakes.

Portelli is happy with the progress of She Will Reign and said the Manhattan Rain filly is on track for her return in the Moir Stakes.

“They don’t break 53 (seconds) very often,” Portelli said.

“I’ve seen them run 53-and-a-half and thought that was fast but she ran 52-something.

“Everything went like clockwork this morning. She’s her usual relaxed self. She did what she had to do.

“She’s a pretty laconic horse these days and it was to see her hit the line good and she pulled up enormous.”

“He (McEvoy) just jumped on for a feel. He was happy with the way she relaxed and happy with the way she quickened.”
