Champion Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien is sending Ten Sovereigns to Australia for the $14m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 19 but has entered the four year old for the Manikato Stakes as an alternative.

“Ten Sovereigns has gone into quarantine and the plan is for him to run in the Everest,” O’Brien told the Racing Post.

“If the ground happened to turn soft, he could go to Melbourne where he has the option of some of the sprints there.”

Ten Sovereigns is well up in the betting for the Manikato Stakes and is marked at $10 with Ladbrokes.com.au behind the $7 equal favourites Osborne Bulls and Santa Ana Lane and Nature Strip at $8.
