Holler On The Drift In Golden Rose Betting

Holler has drifted out to 2015 Golden Rose Stakes odds of $16, but trainer John O’Shea remains confident that the promising colt is ready to run a big race in the Group 1 event at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Holler made his racing debut with an impressive win over Encosta Line and Fireworks in the Hyland Race Colours Plate (1100m) at Royal Randwick on January 17 and O’Shea considered sending the colt to the United Kingdom for the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup (1200m) during the 2015 Royal Ascot Meeting.

The Commands colt was beaten as a short-priced favourite by Spill The Beans and Yaboroo in the Australian Jewel Liquidators Plate (1100m) at Royal Randwick on June 6 and he was freshened-up with two barrier trials at Royal Randwick on July 31 and August 21 before he returned to the races with a more than credible third behind Exosphere and Press Statement in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 29.

O’Shea was happy with the performance of Holler in the Run To The Rose, but he told Sky Racing HQ that the three-year-old had improved in leaps and bounds ahead of the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) this weekend.

“Holler has made dramatic improvement,” O’Shea said.

“As with all of them we have run this spring, we have made sure that for their first run they have a lot of improvement in them and for Holler he was definitely fitting into that category.

“I thought he ran really well.

“He will roll along up on the speed there on Saturday and I think that way of racing suits him and Rosehill suits him.

“He will give a good account of himself.”

O’Shea is chasing his first win the Golden Rose Stakes after previously finishing third with Ashokan in 2012 and missing the placings with Sarajevo (sixth behind Hallowed Crown in 2014), Kumaon (tenth behind Hallowed Crown in 2014), Foxwedge (fourth behind Manawanui in 2011) and Military Gal (11th behind Denman in 2011).

Holler is currently available at 2015 Golden Rose Stakes odds of $16 with Ladbrokes and he is on the sixth line of betting behind Run To The Rose winner Exosphere ($3), Chris Waller-trained Press Statement ($3.50), the marker mover Speak Fondly ($4.60), stablemate Shards ($12) and The Rosebud winner Sebring Sun ($15).
