Entirely Platinum was expected to have his next race start in the Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) after he started his 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a comfortable win in the Canterbury Hurlstone RSL Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 16, but co-trainer Wayne Hawkes revealed this morning that he did not want to run the Pentire gelding on a wet track and would save the five-year-old for the Group 2 Tramway Handicap (1400m) at Royal Randwick next Saturday.
“He might wait another week until the Tramway,” Hawkes said
“I don’t really want to run him on a bog track.”
While Entirely Platinum will not contest the Premier’s Cup at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, there is still plenty of talent in the field for the $100,000 event at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
Chris Waller is set to have a strong hand in the 2014 Premier’s Cup, with the leading Sydney trainer including Who Shot Thebarman, Opinion, Hoylonny, He’s Your Man and Eigelstein in the field for the Listed race.
Who Shot Thebarman (barrier five) and Opinion (barrier six) both started their spring campaigns with fair performances behind Entirely Platinum in the Canterbury Hurlstone RSL Handicap, but will be much better suited by the step-up to 1800 metres.
He’s Your Man (barrier 16) is returning to the races for the first time since he took out the Listed Winter Challenge (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 2, while Hoylonny is also chasing back-to-back wins after he scored an upset win in the Dooleys Handicap (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 16.
Gai Waterhouse will also have multiple runners in the Premier’s Cup after she included Bonfire (barrier three) and Greatwood (barrier one) in the acceptances.
Bonfire produced a most impressive effort to finish second behind Hoylonny on his Australian racing debut and he has drawn ideally in barrier three, while Greatwood also finished in the placings in his maiden race start for the Waterhouse stable.
Other key runners in the 2014 Premier’s Cup field include Australian Derby runner-up Tupac Amaru (barrier two), Peter Moody-trained Wish Come True (barrier eight), Chilean import Sabor A Triunfo (barrier 14), last start winner Oriental Lady (barrier 17) and Albury Cup winner Canny Ballad (barrier 12).
