The Bjorn Baker trained Egyptian Symbol was having her first start since beating one runner home when tenth in the Group 3 $160,000 Nivison (1200m) at Randwick on October 20 last year and was sent out as a drifting $26 chance.

Winning jockey Jason Collett had no problem settling Egyptian Symbol near last in the field from a wide gate while the speedsters Fiery Heights and $2.30 favourite Houtzen set a hot pace up front.

Houtzen got a stitch at the 200m mark while Fiery Heights ($26) and Dothraki ($17) look set to fight out the finish before Egyptian Symbol appeared on the scene late to grab the major prize.

Egyptian Symbol finished third in the same race last year and Baker said that the secret to her win today was sending her out as a fresh horse plus a great ride from Collett.

“She has been a stalwart. This is the fourth year she has been back,” Baker.

“I think she was a little bit unlucky in the three year old race and it looked like she might be unlucky today.”

“A great ride Jason, a great team.”

“She has been her four years in a row and I think I have finally got it right. Fresh up is the key and worked out brilliantly today.”

The favourite Houtzen sat just behind the leader Fiery Heights but faded in the straight to finish tenth while the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Invincible Star ($10) was always well back in the pack and never threatened to finish eleventh.
