Coolmore Stud Stakes Betting Support For Counterattack

Counterattack has been backed into 2015 Coolmore Stud Stakes odds of $15 and he has been a clear market mover in betting markets for the stallion-making race that will be held at Flemington on Saturday.

Counterattack opened at a quote of $21 when the Coolmore Stud Stakes field was released earlier in the week, but there has been consistent support for the Redoute’s Choice colt in the past 24 hours.

The three-year-old returned to racing with a fast-finishing win in the Listed Heritage Stakes (1100m) at Royal Randwick on September 9 and he finished five lengths behind Exosphere in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on October 3 before he returned to winning form in the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m) at the same venue on October 17.

Waller has been pleased with the form of Counterattack during his spring preparation to date and he is hopeful that the talented colt will get a lovely run into the Coolmore Stud Stakes on the back of likely leader Super One.

“Counterattack has drawn the opposite side, which is probably the speed side,”

“Super One is drawn there and although Hugh Bowman is on he will probably lead and he will be a nice horse to get a bit of smoke from.”

Counterattack will be joined in the 2015 Coolmore Stud Stakes by stablemate Japonisme, who has not been seen at the races since he finished third in the Roman Consul Stakes.

Waller believes that Japonisme’s run in the Coolmore Stud Stakes was better than it looks on paper, but he admits that Exosphere remains clearly the horse to beat in the Group 1 event.

“Japonisme’s run was good back at the Roman Consul,” Waller said.

“He was in the wrong part of the track and he was just on empty at the 100.

“He has adapted well to straight working, he has worked up there twice and has adapted well.

“Glyn Schofield rides, he rode him in the jump out on Friday morning and he was very taken with the way that he worked.

“He is in barrier three, which is right next to Exosphere, who is the horse to beat.”

Japonisme is currently available at 2015 Coolmore Stud Stakes of $21 with Ladbrokes, while Exosphere ($1.40) is a clear favourite from Keen Array ($11), Mogador ($11), Counterattack ($16) and Hellbent ($18).
