The old boy Jungle Edge was too good for them in the Group 3 D C McKay Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville on Saturday lapping up the wet track to lead from barrier to box.

The nine-year-old was backed into heavy favouritism on the Soft 6 and apprentice jockey Georgina Cartwright did not disappoint punters with her impressive forward-running display.

Jungle Edge exploded from the gates to take up the lead and seemed to have plenty left in the tank as he raced away from the rest of the field. The win marked his fourth win at Group 3 level, leaving many to wonder if the gelding by Dubawi is a chance in the Group 1 The Goodwood in a fortnight’s time.

Jungle Edge has placed three times at Group 1 level but proved no match in The Galaxy last start where he finished at the back of the field. His wet-track form has seen him enter The Goodwood market as a $15.00 chance with Ladbrokes.

Behemoth was the other eye-catcher on Saturday running home bravely for second. The David Jolly-trained four-year-old found no luck in The Goodwood last year when second to Despatch, but has seen plenty of love in the market firming from $14.00 into $11.00.
