Marc Quinn was delighted Pentasia could pick up her first black-type win in the Listed Chief De Beers Handicap (1100m) at Doomben today but he is already dreaming of far bigger things.

On the immediate agenda are two more Listed sprints but the Port Macquarie trainer is also eyeing off a crack at Group 1 level in February’s Oakleigh Plate.

“I’d love to have  a crack at the Oakleigh Plate with her. I reckon she’s the perfect 1100m horse around Caulfield,” Quinn said.

The five-year-old is likely to have her next hit-out in the June stakes (1200m) at Randwick in two weeks before tackling the Ramornie Handicap at Grafton in July.

“She’s a really good mare,” Quinn said.

Pentasia was running first-up since December but she didn’t appear to be lacking any fitness, powering through the line to defeat Gundy Son and Rocker.

Today’s victory was the third straight for the daughter of Pentire who now boasts a career record of eight wins from 16 starts.

Jockey Christian Reith was full of praise for a horse he believed would always be in the finish if she was able to get a clear passage.

“I thought this mare had a great chance today and she just needed the right run which she was able to get,” Reith said.

Gundy Son finished quickly down the outside to claim runner-up honours while stablemate Griffon produced an eye-catching run to come from last at the turn and steal fourth place.
