Cantbuybetter has returned to racing in terrific form this time and did his chances of a return to the winner’s stall no harm when jumping well and taking an ideal position in transit just behind early pacesetters Sheiswhatsheis and Punta Norte.

The Casino Prince gelding loomed rounding onto the final straight and immediately responded when he was asked for an extra effort by jockey Jeff Lloyd; kicking clear of his rivals to find the line a length in the clear of closest rival Emphasis; Jumbo Prince boxing on for third to complete the minors.

Cantbuybetter has been a strong performer for trainer Ben Currie throughout his entire racing career so far and returned to the races for a smart win at Toowoomba on February 11th.

Continuing to perform admirably at his next two starts, Cantbuybetter won a talent-rich race over 1300m on Weetwood Handicap Day and hit the line well for third in the Listed Tails Stakes (1600m), in what was his only other start prior to this afternoon’s triumph.

Emphasis ran on from the second-half of the pack to finish second this afternoon; a sharp return in form after three reasonably lacklustre performances through April.

Jumbo Prince jumped race favourite this afternoon and was potentially a good thing beaten after receiving no luck in the early stages of the final straight.

Finishing in a dead heat with Col ‘N’ Lil in the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) first-up, the Outback Prince entire hit the line well to finish fourth in the Tails Stakes a fortnight ago.

In being crowned the 2017 Member’s Handicap winner, Cantbuybetter has extended his impressive career record to eight wins and a further seven minors, through only twenty-three competitive appearances.
