Bel Sprinter will step up in grade for the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality

Unbeaten gelding Bel Sprinter will step up in grade this weekend when he tackles the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality at Flemington on Saturday.

Trainer Jason Warren feels the four-year-old has continued to improve since his last run.

“I’m really happy with him, he’s done super since his last run,” Warren said.

Bel Sprinter has attracted a number of undisclosed offers to buy the speedy gelding; however, connections have made it clear that they are unwilling to sell the horse for any price.

“We’ve had quite a few offers over this horse’s racing career so far, but we’ve knocked them all back,” Warren said.

“We’re having too much fun with him at this stage.

“We’re sort of putting those offers out of our mind at this stage and just trying to concentrate on winning races.

“It’s an exciting ride with such a nice horse.”

Warren expects that Bel Sprinter will be forced to lead in the Bobbie Lewis Quality this weekend.

“On looking at the speed in the race I’d say he will be (the leader) again unfortunately,” he said.

“(There) doesn’t look to be a great deal of horses that will really roll along.

“He probably just begins so well he’ll probably just find himself there.

“Obviously he’ll be a sitting duck for quite a long way.”

The trainer is content to continue running Bel Sprinter over no more than 1,200 metres until he demonstrates that he needs otherwise.

“At this stage he’s not racing like I horse that’s wanting a lot further,” Warren said.

“I’d like to try him over a bit further, (but) probably next prep when he’s more mature.”

Warren feels that the best is yet to come for the talented Bel Esprit gelding.

“The horse is improving with racing,” he said.

“I thought he presented a lot better in the mounting yard last time he raced (and) didn’t get as worked up.

“(He’s becoming) more professional you might say.”
