Doomben 10,000 winner Beaded has been hit with a 1.5kg penalty for the Stradbroke Handicap – the biggest ever re-handicap awarded for the race.

Beaded carried 57kgs in the weight for age Doomben 10,000, and will now lug 53kg in the Stradbroke Handicap.

The Peter Snowden trained mare will drop four kilos on her 10,000 run, however she will meet Love Conquers All 1.5kg worse off at the weights.

Beaded finished fourth in the Stradbroke Handicap last year, in what was her only race start in which she did not feature in the first three. She finished a long neck fourth behind Black Piranha when carrying 51kg in the 2010 race.

Racing Queensland handicapper Nathan Bourke has said that he is comfortable with the sharp weight rise heading Beaded’s way.

“Obviously Love Conquers All will meet her better, but we can’t be mindful of just one horse,”

“Effectively it now puts her on the same level as Sniper’s Bullet and All Silent, both of which she beat easily on Saturday. It does however still leave her a half kilo under Melito, as we could justify taking her to that mark,” said Bourke.

Queensland is the only state in Australia where a horse can get a re-handicap after winning a weight for age race. The special rule was bought in in 2006 after Doomben 10,000 winner Undue was unable to make the final Stradbroke Handicap field, despite winning a Group 1 weight for age race just a fortnight earlier.

Apache Cat was the last horse to be penalised after a win in the Doomben 10,000. Apache Cat was penalised 1kg for his 5.5 length win in the 2008 version of the Doomben 10,000.
