The Autumn Sun is the winner of three Group 1 races from only seven race starts and reaffirmed his favouritism for the Randwick Guineas with a soft first up win over today’s rival Vegadaze in the Group 2 $400,000 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill two weeks ago.

Race morning betting at Ladbrokes.com.au has The Autumn Sun at the top of the market order at $1.55 while last week’s Surround Stakes winner Nakeeta Jane has come in for overnight support and has firmed in from $6 to be the $5 second pick.

Trainer Chris Waller is looking forward to seeing The Autumn Sun get back on top of the ground said that the Redoute’s Choice colt will line up a fitter horse in the Randwick Guineas and the step up to the 1600m is also a plus.

“He goes into Saturday’s race a couple of kilos heavier, as well as being fitter,” Waller said.

“The mile (1600m) will be no problem to him and barrier four looks an ideal gate and his work during the week has been excellent.”

Kerrin McEvoy has been aboard The Autumn Sun for the majority of his races, including two of his three Group 1 wins, and has been given the job again in the Randwick Guineas and the colt will jump from barrier four in the nine horse Randwick Guineas field while the Mark Newnham trained Nakeeta Jane will jump from the outside gate with Josh Parr in the saddle again.
