Trainer Chris Waller released a statement this morning on twitter explaining the The Autumn Sun will be tested over the middle distance of 2000m following his last to first win over 1600m in the Group 1 $1m Mostyn Copper Randwick Guineas at Randwick on March 9.

“He has come through his victory in the Randwick Guineas without issue and recovered well from the run,” Waller said.

“Following discussions between the owners and I yesterday, it has been decided that he will now progress to the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas on March 23. There were various options available for his next run, however it was agreed that stepping to the untested trip of 2000m will open up further race options for him during the Autumn.”

“No decision will be made on any races beyond the Rosehill Guineas as we look to use the race as a distance guide for any future races he may contest in the Autumn and beyond.”

The Autumn Sun claimed his fourth Group 1 trophy from only eight race starts when he was able to reel in the leaders after he looked to be out of contention on the home turn after Miss Fabulass set up a substantial lead but Kerrin McEvoy was bale to balance up the Redoute’s Choice colt and he was able to nail the Lindsay Park trained Fundamentalist in the shadows of the post.
