Americain will run in today's Moonee Valley Cup

Racing Victoria chief handicapper Greg Carpenter has sent out a hint that Americain will be treated well if he wins today’s Drake International Moonee Valley Cup (2500m) at Moonee Valley.

The Moonee Valley Cup winner is eligible for a Melbourne Cup penalty.

Americain currently has 58kg for the Group 1 $6m Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 1 and any more weight in that race could mean a win or loss.

“Americain comes in well under conditions today (In the Moonee Valley Cup),” Carpenter said.

“He meets same rivals significantly worse Melbourne Cup at the weights.”

Reading between the lines, if Amercian, the 2010 Melbourne Cup winner,  wins today’s Moonee Valley Cup he may not reeive a penalty.
