2015 Caulfield Cup Day Results: Mongolian Khan wins the Caulfield Cup

One of the Spring Racing Carnival’s most highly anticipated cards, 2015 Caulfield Cup Day boasts ten talent-rich races in Melbourne this afternoon, highlighted by the featured Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) which has attracted an impressive mix of local and international staying talent.

2015 Caulfield Cup Day action and results will get underway with the running of the Yellowglen Plate (1400m) for three-year-old fillies at 12:50pm local time; culminating in the Listed Alinghi Stakes (1100m) at 6:15pm.

Race 1 Yellowglen Plate Results

Talented filly Andriolo has completed an impressive start-to-finish performance to take out the Yellowglen Plate on Caulfield Cup Day this afternoon.

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Craig Williams allowed the three-year-old to stride forward and take up a position at the fore of the field; setting a reasonable tempo over the back straight and rounding the bend before producing an impressive turn of foot to finish comfortably clear of Godolphin entrant Italy; Silent Sedition running on for third.

Three-year-old Mahuta has produced a brave effort to post a career-best result to date in this afternoon’s Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m) on Caulfield Cup Day.

Mahuta was given little chance for success at a quote of $19 in Gothic Stakes betting markets prior to jump but allowed himself the best chance of success when jumping well and immediately taking up the pace.

Rounding onto the final straight with a clear racing line, the Flying Spur colt continued to find over the dying stages of the Gothic Stakes; maintaining a strong sprint to hold off a fast-finishing Holler.

Race 3 Group 2 Caulfield Sprint Results

2015 Caulfield Cup Day has taken an interesting turn upon the completion of Race 3; Lumosty and Éclair Choice both producing huge late turns of foot to dead heat the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m).

Both Lumosty and Éclair Choice were settled off the pace of the Caulfield Sprint early leaders Ball Of Muscle, Headwater and Rain Affair; a decision which proved dividends late in the race when they comfortably flew home on the outside to post the impressive result.

Incredibly, the Caulfield Sprint also results in a dead heat in 2014 when Bel Sprinter and Miracles Of Life could not be split on the line.

Race 4 Listed Ethereal Stakes Results

Three-year-old Dawnie Perfect has made a successful transition to black type racing for the first time on Caulfield Cup Day; completing a perfectly-timed performance for success in the Listed Ethereal Stakes (2000m).

Veteran hoop Jim Cassidy found an ideal position within the field of fourteen; allowing early leaders Bannatyne, Jezzabba and Honesta to take up the pace early and set only a fair tempo away from the barriers and over the back straight.

Peeling off the fence upon rounding onto the final straight, the Big Brown filly immediately responded when asked for an extra effort; cruising past Honesta and Ambience to success.

Sacred Eye has completed a perfectly-timed performance to beat a talented field to the line in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Caulfield Classic (2000m) and stamp herself a favourite for this year’s Group 1 Crown Oaks.

Damien Lane allowed Sacred Eye to stride forward from jump in the Caulfield Classic; finding an ideal position on the heels of early leaders Ayers Rock before dropping back into the field.

Rounding onto the straight with plenty to do, Sacred Eye mustered a huge late turn of foot to overcome a brave Lizard Island and post a career-best result to date.

Race 6 Group 3 David Jones Cup Results

Classy four-year-old Stratum Star has relished a return to 2000m in completing an impressive performance for success in the Group 3 David Jones Cup.

Stratum Star drifted in betting markets in the minutes leading up to jump but did his chances of success no harm when leaving from the gates well and taking up an ideal position on the heels of early races leader Leebaz, with cover.

Rounding onto the final straight and offered a clear line, the talented Group 1 winner immediately responded when asked for an extra effort by jockey Mark Zahra; hitting the line ahead of Awesome Rock and Leebaz.

Vashka has delivered Godolphin their first win on 2015 Caulfield Cup Day in completing an impressive performance for success in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes.

James McDonald immediately led Vashka to the fore of the field from the outset; setting a reasonable tempo over the back straight and rounding the bend.

Holding position on the rails rounding into the final straight, the Exceed And Excel gelding comfortably pulled clear of his rivals and opened a big enough gap to withstand a late charge from Under The Louvre; Coronation Shallan running on for third.

Race 8 Group 2 Tristarc Stakes Results

Talented mare La Passe has continued her impressive Spring Carnival campaign on Caulfield Cup Day; completing a perfectly-timed performance to beat a classy field to the line in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes.

La Passe won the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago, but was interestingly given little chance for success in the Tristarc Stakes as a $21 chance.

Having settled mid-pack for the majority of the Tristarc Stakes, jockey Michelle Payne threaded the five-year-old through the field in the final straight to beat Solicit and Jessy Belle to the line.

Clear race favourite Mongolian Khan has justified his resounding favouritism this afternoon; producing a monumental turn of foot in the final straight to take out the featured Group 1 Caulfield Cup.

Mongolian Khan jumped from the gates well in the Caulfield Cup and jockey Opie Bosson elected to take a position well within the capacity field of eighteen and settling into a great rhythm.

Pressing forward and finding the fore of the field rounding onto the final straight, the son of Holy Roman Emperor continued to find in the final straight; pulling clear and hitting the line ahead of a fast-finishing Trip To Paris and Our Ivanhowe.

Race 10 Listed Alinghi Stakes Results

Consistent mare Vezalay has responded well in returning to mares’ company this afternoon; capping 2015 Caulfield Cup Day with success in the Listed Alinghi Stakes (1100m).

Vezalay’s chances of success in the Alinghi Stakes took a huge boost when allocated barrier 3 on Tuesday, and the mare made the most of the ideal draw when jumping well and settling in prime position on the heels of early leaders Miss Promiscuity and The Messina Nymph.

Hugging the rails rounding onto the final straight, the Shamardal mare continued to find in the final strait to post a comfortable win over Miss Promiscuity and Tuscan Sling.
