Schofield was aboard Zoutenant at his race debut when second to Voilier over 1100m on a soft track at Rosehill on December 6 and feels with that run under his belt is the one to beat at Wyong.

“It was a good test for him. It was 1100, soft track and he was without a trial so he did well to acquit himself the way he did. He will improve without doubt on that effort,” Schofield told AAP.

Half of the field for the Wyong Magic Millions 2yo Classic are first starters and Zoutentant’s race experience will be a huge asset for his chances.

And trainer Kevin Moses has also add the blinkers to the Zizou colt’s race day gear in an attempt to qualify him for the $2m Jeep Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 10.

“He’s quick, he’s tractable. He jumped and led and he was pretty strong except the last furlong (200m) where he got tired, so it shouldn’t hold any worries for him,” Schofield said.

“Race experience always counts. It’s always helpful. He’s had that so he ticks a few boxes.”

Unencumbered won the Wyong Magic Millions 2yo Classic before going on to win last year’s Gold Coast Magic Millions 2yo Classic and Schofield hopes that Zoutenant can repeat that winning formula.

Zoutenant has been posted the $3.70 favourite for the Wyong Magic Millions 2yo Classic with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Hawkes Racing Team first starter Surf Seeker at $5.50, the Gerald Ryan trained Perignon at $6.50 and Rosehill winner Single Gaze at $7.

Expensive yearling purchase, the Bryce Heys trained Chubbz, will also being the wearing the blinkers for his race debut and has been marked a s $15 chance.

And in Gold Coast Magic Millions 2yo Classic betting Zoutenant has been listed as a $15 chance.
