Zipping Classic Betting Support Continues For Green Moon

Green Moon is currently available at 2014 Zipping Classic odds of $4.40 and has been a clear market mover in betting for the Group 1 event at Sandown on Saturday.

Green Moon opened at a quote of $6 in Zipping Classic betting, but there has been plenty of support for the Montjeu entire throughout the week and punters snapped up the $4.50 that was available this morning.

The veteran stayer has not recorded a race win since he took out the 2012 edition of the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) and he has finished in the placings in just one of his past 12 starts.

Green Moon started his 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a sixth place finish in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 13 and he failed to fire in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at the same venue on October 4, but he was far from disgraced when ninth in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18.

While Green Moon has been the best-backed runner in Zipping Classic betting, Prince Of Penzance remains a clear favourite to record his second win at Group level and is currently available at a quote of $3.20.

Prince Of Penzance made a slow start to his 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign, but he recorded the biggest win of his racing career to date when he took out the Group 2 Moonee Valley Cup (2500m) on Cox Plate Day before he finished second behind Le Roi in the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) at Flemington last Saturday.

Another horse that has received a sprinkling of support in 2014 Zipping Classic betting markets is Green Moon’s stablemate Sea Moon, who has been backed into $12 after he opened at $15 when the Zipping Classic field was released earlier in the week.

Sea Moon returned to racing with a fifth place finish in the Group 3 The Bart Cummings (2520m) at Flemington on October 4 and finished at the tail of the field in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18 before he missed the 2014 Melbourne Cup due to a virus.

There has also been some light support for OTI Racing-owned Au Revoir ($5.50 into $5) and staying mare Epingle ($11 into $10), while Spillway ($3.80 out to $4) and Rawnaq ($11 out to $16) have all been on the drift.
