Leon Corsten believes his three-year-old colt Zabeelionaire possesses the talent necessary to win the Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes at Caulfield this weekend.

Zabeelionaire is yet to win a race after his first three career starts, however, has shown talent at the top level to finish fourth in the Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes last month.

“I have always had the utmost faith in the horse but he has got to stand up and be counted this Saturday,” Corstens said.

“He has drawn well (barrier five) and it is his first time away from the Valley so it is going to be interesting.”

Corstens believes the Stutt Stakes’ slow-rated track hampered Zabeelionaire’s winning chances.

“He never handled the track at all,” Corstens said.

“The moment he (jockey Stephen Baster) asked him to so something the horse was slipping and sliding all over the place.”

With Saturday’s track predicted to be rated a Good 3, Corstens is confident the horse has what it takes to break his maiden.

“I have got no doubt he has improved but this is really the testing time,” Corstens said.

“It is the nitty gritty for him now and time to show us what he can do.

“To me he looks like a dead-set stayer and I’m hoping he will be running seventh or eighth and can work home.”
