Young Breeder Named Victorian Thoroughbred Employee Of The Year

Daniel Nevill has been named the Tabcorp Victoria Thoroughbred Employee of the Year when the award ceremony was held on Australian Guineas Day at Flemington last Saturday.

The 23-year-old took over the management of Goulburn Valley’s Hollylodge Thoroughbreds Stud last year, won the award for his overall dedication and commitment to the Victorian breeding industry.

Daniel also managed to take out the Stud Employee of the Year award, which was one of the additional five award categories presented on the day.

The other four categories included Track Rider of the Year, Full Time Stable Employee of the Year, Part Time Stable Employee of the Year and New Staff Member of the Year.

The Employee of the Year winner’s mother, who nominated her son for the award, felt that Daniel had taken the stud to a new level when he took over the family business.

“Daniel is reliable and trustworthy and loves the racing and breeding industry that he works in,” Ms Nevill said.

“At quiet times he works for other local studs with their stal lions and sales preparation so he has a great commitment to the industry.”

Daniel took home $5,000 for winning the Employee of the Year award and an additional $1,000 for his stud category achievement.

“Daniel represents our stud to a very high standard when out in the thoroughbred community. Most remarkable is the fact he has taken on, and succeeded, at a very young age the full responsibility of managing the business,” his mother said.

The annual Employee of the Year awards was designed to recognise the achievements of Victoria’s unsung heroes of the thoroughbred racing and breeding industry.
