Ygritte Ready To Run Well In Inglis Guineas

Ygritte has not had a race start in over a month, but trainer Gerald Ryan is confident that the talented filly is ready to run well in the 2015 Inglis Guineas at Scone on Saturday.

Ygritte was slightly disappointing during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival and she returned to racing with a sixth place finish in the Listed Fireball Stakes (1100m) at Royal Randwick on March 7 before she returned to a semblance of her best form in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 21.

The Snitzel filly had no luck in running in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) on April 2, but she was still able to hang on bravely to return to winning form and she produced another tough effort when third in the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) at Royal Randwick on April 11.

Ygritte was set to run in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) on May 2, but the race was postponed due to the wet track and Ryan elected to give the three-year-old a jump out rather than another race start heading into the 2015 Inglis Guineas this weekend.

“She has had five weeks between runs,” Ryan told Racing Ahead.

“She was going to run at Hawkesbury and they were called off and we elected not to run last Saturday, so she wouldn’t be backing up into this race.

“She has done really well, she had a jump out here on Friday morning over 1000 metres with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle and I sent three others four or five lengths in front and she sat off them and picked them up really good.

“She ran the fastest of the morning that I clocked, she goes well fresh, she is going into the race really good in herself and I expect her to run very well.

“1400 is the question mark, but I think that fresh and well and fit she can run very well.”

Ygritte is currently available at 2015 Inglis Guineas odds of $6 and she is on the second line of betting behind Provincial Championship winner Sure And Fast ($3.90), while there has been a sprinkling of support for local galloper Bulletproof Monk ($31 into $26), the untapped talent Charlie Who ($21 into $19), last start winner Botany Bay ($10 into $9) and Gai Waterhouse-trained Nayeli ($12 into $10).
