Ygritte No Certainty To Contest The Run To The Rose

Trainer Gerald Ryan has revealed that promising filly Ygritte is no certainty to contest the 2014 The Run The Rose that will be held at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Ygritte was included in The Run To The Rose field that was released earlier this morning, but Ryan told Racing Ahead that he will wait until the end of the week before he decides whether to run the daughter of Snitzel in the Listed event.

Ryan is not worried about the potential wet track at Rosehill Gardens this weekend, but he believes that he has a number of options with Ygritte and will wait until he sees how things play out before he makes a final decision.

“Whether we run or not we will make our mind up closer to the day and if she doesn’t run she will run in the Furious, but if she does run whether she goes to the Golden Rose or not will depend on her performance on Saturday,” Ryan said.

“If she ran on Saturday we could also wait and go three weeks into the Tea Rose.

“We will just wait and see with her, but she is accepted up for Saturday and we will just see how the field ends up because it is going to be a heavy track on Saturday.

“She can handle it and that is one of the reasons that we left her in.”

Ygritte did not produce a poor performance in her four race starts as a juvenile, but she finished a disappointing sixth after being well-backed in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 16.

Ryan said that he is still unsure what to make of the first-up run of Ygritte, but he said that he is happy to forgive the run as she moves further into her 2014 Spring Racing Carnival preparation.

“She went in there without a trial and she paraded fresh in the yard beforehand and she raced fresh,” Ryan said.

“She was probably too close to the lead to finish off from the pace that they were going and I don’t know whether I was happy or not.

“I am prepared to forgive the one run and she has progressed well since.”

Ygritte is currently available at a quote of $17 in the 2014 The Run To The Rose betting market with Ladbrokes Australia.
