Woorim is the BRC Sprint winner and has earned a ballot exemption for the Stradbroke Handicap

Woorim has earned himself a ballot exemption from the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap with a spectacular win in today’s Group 3 BRC Sprint.

The five-year-old surged from the back of the field to win the race with an extraordinary burst of speed in the closing stages of the race.

Jockey Damian Browne helped Woorim to produce his flawless win.

“All this campaign he’s been plagued by races that have been run too slow for him,” Browne said.

“It’s probably the first track that’s suited him too.

“Rob (Heathcote) and his staff at home have done a great job with this horse and he’s got the rewards today.”

Trainer Robert Heathcote was awestruck by Woorim’s outstanding performance.

“Wow, what a finish,” Heathcote said.

“I did tell people he has the best finish of any horse I’ve ever had anything to do with.

“What an enormous finish he has.”

Heathcote is hopeful of Woorim’s winning chances in the Stradbroke on June 11 should the track suit him.

“(If) it’s a dry track then it will take a damn good horse to beat him,” Heathcote said.

“He’s an extraordinary horse.”

Woorim nearly gave Heathcote his first Group 1 win in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes last year and the trainer is hoping he can finally make it happen in the Stradbroke.

“Hopefully he can rectify that in (3) weeks in the Straddy,” Heathcote said.

Heathcote now has both Woorim and Buffering exempt from the Stradbroke ballot, with the latter winning the Group 2 Victory Stakes on April 30.

“I think that’s our fourth group winner and we’re just enjoying the ride,” Heathcote said.
