Woorim Chases Stradbroke Ballot Exemption In BRC Sprint

Woorim is looking to win the BRC Sprint and earn a ballot exemption for the Stradbroke Handicap

Woorim will attempt to earn himself a guaranteed start in the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap when he runs in the Group 3 BRC Sprint at Doomben this Saturday.

Trainer Robert Heathcote says that the five-year-old gelding will need a dry track to have a chance of winning the race and gaining automatic entry in the Stradbroke.

“He’s going great,” Heathcote said.

“The sun is shining here and no overnight rain.

“We missed the showers so the better the track for him the better his chances.”

Heathcote said that Woorim’s inability to handle wet ground was evident in his recent run in the Group 2 Victory Stakes.

“He doesn’t have a lot of early speed and in the Victory Stakes he was skating all around in the ground,” Heathcote said.

“It was only in the last couple of hundred meters that he really balanced up and let down.”

Woorim has been allocated barrier nine for the BRC Sprint, a position that Heathcote hopes won’t cause him to get too far back early.

“I’m hoping he won’t be conceding too much start,” he said.

“If we could be just worse than midfield and hopefully get a cart into the race.”

Heathcote rates Woorim as an even better Stradbroke chance than stablemate and Victory Stakes winner Buffering, as long as he can make the field.

“He can really let down and probably has the best finishing sprint of any horse I’ve ever had,” Heathcote said.

“If Woorim can get into the Stradbroke on a dry track he’ll let them know he’s there that’s for sure.”

Heathcote is hoping that Woorim can be the one to win him his first group 1 race when the Stradbroke runs on June 11.
