Wood Orders Zero Mistakes From Munce

He’s by far the most successful rider in Brisbane this season with 55 city winners but Chris Munce has been given strict orders for tomorrow Lough Neagh Stakes at Doomben.

Munce will be aboard Zero Rock in the $200,000 race and trainer Kelso Wood is accepting nothing short of a victory.

The horse is in fantastic form of late and throughout her overall career she’s amassed just under $900,000 from 26 starts.

Eleven have those have resulted in wins and Wood desperately wants to make that 12 tomorrow so he can collect the $128,000 first place prize and top the horse over the million dollar mark.

There’s no doubt Munce is the man for the job, not only is he the best rider in Queensland right now he’s also ridden the horse at her past 10 starts.

That said he’ll have to be perfect tomorrow as he’s up against not just a hot field but a huge 58kg weight.

Don’t think Wood will be accepting that as an excuse though.

“I can’t complain about the weight. The mare has earned that handicap with her record including the Stradbroke placing this year,” Wood said.

“She can still win. We know she is up to the class. It’s a very good field but she’s performed consistently at this level.

“It’s not a crushing weight. But she needs a few things to roll her way.

“(Chris) knows her so well and rides her so well I have confidence they can get the job done again.

“But we don’t want her stuck wide or running into trouble with that weight.”

The mare won her first up test three weeks back over 1200m at Eagle Farm and the fact she did that with 57.5kg will give the team some confidence.

She’s also taken plenty of fitness out of that run and will be primed by tomorrow.

Also aiding her cause is a tremendous second up record in which she’s won twice and run second twice from five starts.
