Cox Plate winner Winx will be set for the Group 1 $4m Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on day two of ‘The Championships’ on April 9 next year.
Winx was sent to the paddock for a spell following her sensational four and three quarter lengths win over Criterion in the Group 1 $3m Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 24 during the Melbourne Spring Carnival.
Champion trainer Chris Waller has reported that the Street Cry mare has done well in the spelling paddock and will be back in the stable in a fortnight to start her Autumn Carnival preparation.
“She has been spelling really well and is due back in another two weeks,” Waller said.
“The Queen Elizabeth is the obvious aim but we will enter her in the Doncaster and see what weight she gets.”
Winx was just one of the stable stars to help Waller collected ten Group 1 wins this season so far with four year old Good Project becoming his latest Group 1 winner with an all the way victory in the Group 1 $1m James Boag’s Premium-Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot in Perth last Saturday.
The Cox Plate win was Winx’s third Group 1 victory and came straight on the back of her barnstorming win in the Group 1 $1m The Star 150th Epsom (1600m) at Randwick on October 3.
Winx’s other Group 1 triumph came during her three year old season when she produced her characteristic flying finish to win the Group 1 $500,000 Treasury Casino & Hotel Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Doomben during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
The Cox Plate was also Winx’s fifth win on the trot which started in Queensland when she came from last on the turn to win the Group 3 $125,000 XXXX Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast on May 16 before she took out the Queensland Oaks.
The Not A Single Doubt mare kicked off her Spring Carnival campaign with a first up win in the Group 2 $200,000 Theo Marks Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on September 12 followed by her wins in the Epsom and the Cox Plate.
Leading Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman has been aboard Winx for all of her three Group 1 victories and was very emotional when he won his first Cox Plate on the gallant mare.
Winx has won just over $3.6 in prizemoney and bonuses for her nine wins and three seconds from fifteen career starts.
