Winx is one of eleven fillies and mares trainer Chris Waller has nominated for the Queen Of The Turf and the champion mare is also entered in the Group 1 $4m Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on the same day, the second day of ‘The Championships’.

Waller’s main 2017 Sydney Autumn Carnival target for Winx is the Queen Elizabeth Stakes but the premiership winning trainer has taken out some insurance in case the glamour mare hits a hic up along the way.

High profile fillies Omei Sword and Foxplay are also among Waller’s entries for the Queen Of The Turf which has received a total of 117 nominations.

Omei Sword is entered for four races on day two of ‘The Championships’ and as well as being in the Queen Of The Turf, is also nominated for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, the Group 1 $1m James Boag’s Premium Australian Oaks (2400m) and the Group 2 $600,000 Arrowfield 3yo Sprint (1200m).

Foxplay is also entered for the Australian Oaks and the Arrowfield 3yo Sprint.

Eight times winner of the Queen Of The Turf Gai Waterhouse has teamed up with Adrian Bott and they have a strong contingent of fillies and mares nominated with Group 1 winners English and Global Glamour the standouts.

English claimed her Group 1 trophy with her win in the $600,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick during the 2016 Sydney Autumn Carnival while Global Glamour claimed two Group 1 wins during the 2016 Spring Carnival with her victories in the 1 $500,000 Sydney Airport Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick and in the $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield a week later.

Trainer Mick Kent has nominated lightly raced unbeaten mare Abbey Marie for the Queen Of The Turf.

The Redoute’s Choice mare has only been to the races three times for three wins but hasn’t raced since winning the Group 1 $400,000 Schweppes Oaks (registered as Australasian Oaks) (2000m) at Morphettville during the 2016 Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival.

Magic Millions 3yo Guineas $101 winner Flying Jess is also among the nominations for the Queen Of The Turf as is the John Thompson trained First Seal.
