Last week Talia Rodder had a huge relief, she won her appeal against a careless riding charge and was free to get back in the saddle and continue her career.

The end of the most controversial story for Racing Victoria all year had come to an end and so too the pressure of constant scrutiny and media attention.

That relief was short lived though with RVL stewards furious at the decision and they almost immediately threatened to take further action.

There is now a very real chance this story won’t die before Christmas and Rodder could be facing yet another court room in 2012.

The RVL integrity sub-committee will decide this week whether or not they’ll challenge the ruling.

If they decide they will it will be heard at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Much of the pressure is coming from Terry Bailey, chairman of the stewards, who wasted no time in addressing the case since coming back from holidays.

He’s been bullish in his assessment of what’s transpired and bravely declared that in the few times he’s elected to take this step he’s never lost.

Last week he said he was “not going over it (the RADB transcript) for no reason”, and that the fact Rodder is a 3kg apprentice didn’t mean she deserved leniency.

There’s little doubt stewards haven’t handled the loss well and given the media attention around the case there’s every chance this is just as much about restoring pride as it is seeking justice.

Rodder originally received a six week ban after fighting for the lead aboard Serene Tania in an event at Moonee Valley.

The horse faded down the straight to finish fifth but has since won two in a row.

Rodder is a regular rider in Tasmania with only had 19 starts in Victoria, reports suggest she is struggling to cope with the stress this fight is causing.
